The Power of Reflection

Learning is a never-ending process that fosters continual exploration and change. However, in order to grow, we must assess and evaluate those learning experiences as well as visualize their use in future situations. The author, Harley King, notes: So much is buried in our lives that we forget what we have learned. In order to do more than temporarily memorize information, we must make meaning of our experiences and content as well as connect and apply that information to existing knowledge. With that in mind, integrating past learning into our present and future worlds through self-reflection becomes a key component of assessment and the learning process. In this session, we will discuss the importance of self-reflection in learning as well as the ever-growing array of technological tools available to help us change the way our students take responsibility for their learning and go about extracting meaning from content.
